Hi, I am Deborah Bain, owner of Connecting Worlds autism training. I am also mum to a young man with autism, wife to an older (but still young!), man with autism and I am also an experienced Specialist Autism Trainer. I work part-time for a Local Authority as part of a specialist disabilities team. For over 20 years I have been privileged to have worked with hundreds of people with autism, their families, numerous settings and support teams. Most recently I delivered training packages into Caremark (East Riding) and Camphill Village Trust at Botton. I have been fortunate to have worked with some amazing people and feedback has been extremely positive.
The numbers of children, young people and adults accessing mainstream settings, schools and placements have risen dramatically over recent years; as have numbers of people receiving care in their own homes. It is a wonderful move forward. Unfortunately training for education, health and care staff has not kept pace with these rising numbers. To redress the balance in a small way, in 2018 I set up my own private business delivering face to face autism and sensory difficulties training.
My son has severe autism and has attended mainstream support bases and specialist settings. My husband has high functioning autism and works full time. Both are very different individuals. Through living and working in so many diverse environments and with so many individuals across the autism spectrum, I have gained a unique insight and empathy with those affected by the disorder.
I believe passionately that with greater understanding we can raise the prospects of children, young people and adults with autism; helping them to achieve the best outcomes and to live happier, more fulfilling lives.
